Spooks should be policed

Vice-President Hamid Ansari's contention that intelligence agencies in the country need to be policed is a valid one. We live in a democracy and the elected representatives need to wield the greatest power of supervision. Over each and every arm of government machinery. This has been and is being done in any mature democracy like the USA and the UK, from which our constitution too takes a lot of inspiration.
The intelligence operatives desire to remain free of such governmental control of a Parliamentary oversight committee is nothing but an effort to keep operating without check. The intelligence agencies of this country completely liable to be held accountable for utilisation or misutilisation of the tax payers money. This is a move that will have far reaching repercussion. The intelligence agencies will be made accountable for each and every failure and will not operate in a nether world of their own. This control will also mean that their use for political purposes will become more difficult, if not stopped altogether.
