Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni has confirmed a fact that everyone in this country knew.... that the media is a saleable commodity and for the right money you can have anything published.
She informed the Rajya Sabha that the Press Council of India has received 19 complaints from various persons, including an MP Kunwar Manvendra Singh, against newspapers accusing them of publishing paid news.
Complaints were received against Dainik Jagran, Hindustan, The Tribune, The Hindu, Dinamalar, Dainik Bhaskar, Punjab Kesari, Dinakaran, Tamil Murasu, Daily Thanthi, Maalai Malar and Amar Ujala.
A Group of Ministers has already been constituted to examine the report on 'Paid News' prepared by Press Council of India and to give its views on a comprehensive policy and institutional mechanism to address this phenomenon.
